The definition of a “chronic” condition is one lasting more than three months. It can be discouraging to attend doctor visits, specialist appointments, tests and scans only to find out that there is no magic pill or quick fix for your condition. Perhaps your diagnosis is arthritis, fibromyalgia, herniated discs or even idiopathic (no known cause). We see patients time after time who have been told nothing can be done for them or even that surgery is the only option left. Loss of mobility and pain with no end in sight can lead to depression. Often it is the encouragement of friends and/or family that will be the reason why our chronic pain patients will come to The Pelly Clinic.
Turning the Volume Down on Pain
Chronic pain sufferers often not only have loud pain signals sent to the brain, but also their ability to turn the volume down from those signals is greatly diminished. This is where regular chiropractic care hits the mark – turning the volume down on pain signals. Chiropractors treat neck pain, back pain, joint pain and pressure points which results in better mobility and reduces triggers to the pain cycle. Patients under regular Chiropractic care are able to exercise moderately – another key to improvement of function and reduction of symptoms. Seeing a Chiropractor during a painful flare-up can interrupt pain signals reducing the intensity and duration of the episode. Massage is also highly rated among patients for elevating mood, decreasing the need for medications and reducing pain.
