Laser Therapy

The Pelly Clinic is proud to offer highly effective Class IV Laser Therapy by Lightforce to its patients. Laser Therapy may be used both as an adjunct to your chiropractic care or as a ‘stand alone’ therapy for many different applications.

Why Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy has been effectively shown to treat a multitude of problems including (but not limited to)*:
  • A substitute for surgery (joint surgeries, spinal surgeries)
  • An effective tool for post-surgery healing and stabilization (joint surgeries, spinal surgeries)
  • A long-term pain management system (fibromyalgia, chronic pain, acute pain)
  • Acute injury treatment (ligament sprains, muscle strains, muscle spasms, tendonitis)
Laser Therapy has been adopted as the first choice of treatment by the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, FIFA and the US Olympic team. The Pelly Clinic was one of the first clinics in Canada to offer the superior Class IV Laser technology, and we have been very impressed with the results we have seen by using it on patients who have experienced limited success with conventional therapies.

How does Laser Therapy Work?

Laser Therapy works by stimulating two biochemical processes that are fundamental to the healing process. The first process increases the permeability of targeted cell membranes, thereby allowing waste to exit the cell and nutrients and proteins to enter the cell more easily. This will allow the damaged tissues to heal at an accelerated rate. The second process specifically targets the small “engine” of the cell called the mitochondria. The mitochondria produces energy for the cell in the form of ATP, and once the cell has more ATP to use, the repair of damaged cells happens much faster.

Is Laser Therapy Safe?

Yes. Laser Therapy has been shown to have very few side-effects. It is extremely safe and the only thing that you will feel will be a localized warming sensation. However, as all types of therapies have risks, here is a list of the potential side-effects:

  • Eye damage if eyewear is not used (we supply proper eyewear)
  • Some antibiotics increase skin photosensitivity; Laser Therapy should not be used in this situation
  • As Laser Therapy increases cell metabolism, it should not be directed toward any cancer tumors
  • Special precaution should be taken to not direct the Laser at the testicles or ovaries
